The #1 rule of using your pendulum: it will only work if you are centered. Your pendulum reads the Chi/Qi, or energy of your heart in order to move & reply. You need to be centered in your heart, calming the monkey mind, in order to have a true reading with your pendulum.
Through my Qi Gong training, I have learned that wood is the best type of pendulum to use because it does not hold onto energy like metals or a crystal would. Not to worry, I use plenty of crystal pendulums as well, depending on what I'm working on. As you can see in the photos, I have a beautiful Green Aventurine pendulum from my lovely husband, & my first ever pendulum - Clear Quartz with wee Moonstones & Black Obsidian. It's a great idea to place those crystal pendulums in the moonlight or sun* to cleanse & charge up, or use a smoke cleanse** or sea salt. Some folks cleanse their crystal/metal pendulums before every use, but I listen to my intuition & feel it out...they don't always need a cleansing before every use.
Next, start to play with your pendulum, understanding how to interpret it's movements. Typically, clockwise circles are a "YES," counter-clockwise circles are a "NO," & a straight line is either an "UNSURE" or "NO". Always, listen to your intuition! Maybe you read your pendulum a little differently & assign different answers for different directional swings & circular movements. Ask your pendulum, "What does a YES look like?" or "What does a NO look like?" Record your pendulum readings in a journal.
The more time you spend working with your pendulum, the better you will work together & understand one another. Remember, the key is asking yes/no questions, not open-ended questions.
Once you learn how to interpret the movements of your pendulum, begin asking more yes/no questions. Example: Is my name {Insert Your Name}? The pendulum should swing YES. Is my name {Insert Fake Name}? The pendulum should swing NO. You can ask these questions with your address, phone #, family members names, etc.
